New pictures!!!

20th April 2010

We've been a little quiet recently as we've been out chasing some great photo opportunities (Oh, and I can say "we" now because we got married in March).

First was the great winter visitors, including fieldfares and redwings that inundated the local RSPB reserve. The fieldfare picture has won the David Haigh award, which was a pleasant surprise. Though I feel shy about going to receive it in May in front of an audience.

We've also been enjoying the waders in Norfolk, including this very friendly redshank. That picture just got the RPS nature exhibition. While photographing I ran into David Osbourne, and it was such a cold day I left him my emergency marsbar to fend off the chills.

Finally as spring approaches and the birds are starting to sort out territories and pecking order, there have been some great chances for photography. Spent a few days at Verulimium Park with various friends, watching for herons with nesting material, but the coots decided to have a few fights in front of us, which were a special treat. Watching them they started a bit of chasing and posing with wings up, but it was only when all four of the competing couples got together that the feathers really started to fly.

So, all I can say is get out there and enjoy the spring!
